Six years after the violent death of her husband, Amelia (Essie Davis) is at a loss. She struggles to discipline her 'out of control' 6 year-old, Samuel (Noah Wiseman), a son she finds impossible to love. Samuel's dreams are plagued by a monster he believes is coming to kill them both. When a disturbing storybook called 'The Babadook' turns up at their house, Samuel is convinced that the Babadook is the creature he’s been dreaming about. His hallucinations spiral out of control, he becomes more unpredictable and violent. Amelia, genuinely frightened by her son's behavior, is forced to medicate him. But when Amelia begins to see glimpses of a sinister presence all around her, it slowly dawns on her that the thing Samuel has been warning her about may be real.

Brad M Really kind of a slow but interesting story. Very creepy. Would of rated it higher, but the ending sucked. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/11/24 Full Review Angel L This movie is nothing short of great. I was constantly on the edge of my seat with goosebumps all over me as the film played. The tension and mix of emotions is greatly executed. It diverts it's self in the genre compared to the more typical jump scares you will see. This film is scary in a new way which was phenomenal. Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/10/24 Full Review Jakeem B Just watched it for the first time and The Babadook definitely lives up to the hype! Yeah it’s not an over the top scary movie until the last 30 minutes but it’s so unsettling and builds up the horror in other ways besides just using jump scares and gore (which I love in horror movies) but this was so well written & directed that it doesn’t need any of that and the big explosion of horror at the end feels more earned rather than just nonsense scares for the sake of a big climax… definitely one of the better horror movies I’ve seen in years Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/11/24 Full Review Anna W I wanted so badly to enjoy this film because of all of the amazing reviews about it.What a tremendous waste of time. If I could give this movie 0 stars, I would. Seriously. Don’t bother. The amount of people recommending this film are tasteless. This is just another low budget horror film. Only good about it was the mother and son’s acting, but otherwise the story was dragged out and incredibly boring. The “climax” was almost as unsatisfying as the end, which was lame and uncreative. My mom and I both laughed and said, “that’s it? Seriously?”There were no jump scares. No scares at all, in fact. There are thousands of other great horrors to spend your time watching — please don’t waste your breath on this. Just awful. Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/06/24 Full Review Audience Member My wife gives it a 3.5, and I say 2.5. We agreed on 3. The beginning and middle were good, but not big fans of the ending. Definitely worth watching though. Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/06/24 Full Review Jason P Unbelievably boring and annoying. Not scary at all.
